About Us

The Baptist Church of Plainfield was organized in 1792 with nineteen members, meeting at the Pond Hill School House on Snake Meadow Road. In 1840, the name was changed to Unionville Baptist Church in Plainfield, and in 1843 a new church building on the corner of Church and Main Streets was dedicated. On Friday the 13th of April, 1928, a fire destroyed this building. The Present building was then erected in 1929 and dedicated in 1930. At the same time, the official name became The Moosup Baptist Church.

The Baptist Church of Danielson was organized when 23 persons joined together in 1874 to meet a perceived need in their community. The church grew quickly, and in March of 1909 the congregation welcomed its 496th member. The original Gothic/Queen Anne structure, on this same site was replaced by the current building in 1966. The new space provides for the variety of programs and activities we offer. Our sanctuary boasts one of the finest pipe organs in eastern Connecticut.

In August, 2004, our two church families voted to merge, and we began to operate under the interim name of The Baptist Church of Danielson and Moosup. In 2007, the congregation chose a new name for itself: The Cornerstone Baptist Church. We believe that this new identity reflects the unity we share as disciples of Jesus while working together on the following goals: becoming better disciples of Jesus by welcoming anyone seeking God, encouraging each other to find and develop our spiritual gifts, and to reach out to our community to share the love of God.
